The Knights Finish the 2009 Season in Style.

 

 

 

The Derby City Knights finished the last furlong of the 2009 season with their performances at the DCA Finals I&E Competition in Rochester, NY on 9/4... and what performances they were!!

Trumpet soloist Stephen Bottom started the overall Brass I&E competition with an amazing performance of "Grand Russian Fantasia", which earned him a Silver Medal and a score of 96 (he now goes down in DCK history as having the 1st score over 80 and winning the 1st medal in ANY DCA event).

Stephen and Camille Singleton-Towns followed with their Trumpet duet, "Trumpet Concerto" by Vivaldi. They scored a 96, a Gold Medal, and the Brass Duet World Championship (making them the 1st group of DCK members to win a Championship).

The quartet of Stephen, Camille (both Trumpets), Matt Williams (Mellophone), and Matt Basey (Baritone) entered the home stretch with a great performance of "Die Bankelsangerlieder". They scored DCK's 3rd straight 96 and the Gold Medal by 8 points over the Govenaires.

Then the entire Brass Ensemble crossed the finish line with their show "A Day At The Races"- "My Old Kentucky Home/Call To The Post" and "William Tell Overture". The crowd was absolutely into the show- the audio and the visual portions (every member dressed as something representative of the Kentucky Derby- jockey, horse owner, 1930's fan, UofL marching band member, infield 'idiots', and the Bugler). Derby City's performance earned them a Bronze Medal with a score of 94 - the highest full ensemble score ever for the group. The score defeated such corps as The Renegades (finished 7th), Prime Time (2005 and 2007 Champions- finished 4th) and Capital Brass, and only finished 1 point behind Power Zone.

This has the been the most successful season to date for the Knights- but it only gets better from here! Thank you to all the performers for starting a new chapter in the history of DCK!
